Note: We recommend your first charge for your charger should be via USB.
1. The first charge given to the unit using the USB connection cable takes longer than noted in the manual?
- We recommend that the first charge given is done from the USB charge cable connected to a PC or lap top. The reason for this is that the first charge will take the longest (between 4 – 6hours). Like most new devices using a lithium ion battery, the first charge will always take longer than subsequent charges. Please keep the charger connected to the USB until the central LED (B) turns from red to green.
2. My charger has been outside, in the sun but when I connected it to my device, it only charged for a short time and did not deliver much power?
- Please ensure the first charge is given by the USB cable.
- Please make sure you have removed the protective film from the solar cells as this will radically reduce the effectiveness of the cells.
- Please ensure exposure to sunny conditions for between 5 to 10 hours.
- Ensure the charger is outside, facing south, in an un-shaded position and ideally tilted at a 45 degree angle.
3. What performance I can expect ?
- After 1 day in full sun (9am to 6pm) the power hub will be pretty much fully charged. When connected to your device it will deliver power for 20minutes to 1hour depending on the device.
- If charger is positioned behind a window, again facing south for a 1 day charge in full sun conditions the time needed to fully charge battery will be up to 3 days. The reason for this increase in time is that most glass incorporates UV filters, which naturally reduce the amount of irradiation needed to enable solar panels to operate effectively
- In cloudy conditions, charger may take approximately 1 ˝ times longer to charge than the above mentioned times, but this is depending on the time of year, density of cloud etc.
4. How long will charger's hub store its power for?
- The charger can store the power without any significant loss for around 3 months.
5. Can I leave the charger out in the rain?
- No we do not recommend getting the charger wet, however, should this happen accidentally, please dry both hub and cells in a dry airy position away from children and food stuffs. The solar cells should be fine; however, the hub / battery may be unsalvageable. A trial will soon tell, however, we would recommend this trial be done outside by the solar cells only and NOT the USB charge cable.
- 6. How it works?
- On the outside of your bag, there is a paper thin, flexible
solar panel. This solar panel charges a battery pack located
inside the bag to supply power for your cell phone or iPod, day
or night. Simply place the solar panel in the bag towards the
sun to collect usable energy.
Put it in your window at work, home, car, or on the train; face it towards the sun at a café; or walk/bike around town with the panel exposed. Even on cloudy or rainy days, energy is collected through the UV light of the sun.
On a bright, sunny day the battery should be fully charged in 6-8 hours. On a cloudy day the battery will require a bit more time. The battery pack will hold the sun’s energy for several days.
Included with each Noon Solar bag is a user manual explaining the specifics of solar energy and how to access and use it. - 7. How long will it take to charge the internal battery in my bag?
- On a sunny day it will take about 6-8 hours, on a cloudy day it will take more time. The internal battery will store the solar energy for several days, so that you can charge your cell phone or iPod day or night.
- 8. How can I make sure I am collecting energy with my bag?
- It’s simple, just expose the panel to the sun. Place it in your window at work or home, face the panel towards the sun at a café, or walk/bike around town with the panel exposed. Even on cloudy or rainy days, energy is collected through the UV light of the sun. The battery pack has a green charging light that will illuminate when it is receiving a charge.
- 9. What type of light will charge my bag?
- The solar panels have been developed to collect a charge from the sun. Indoor lights will not work.
- 10. Can the solar panel get wet?
- Yes, the panel in the bag is water and weatherproof. But don't soak them!!!
